Ranbir Kapoor and Bimal Parekh, owners of the Indian Super League’s Mumbai franchise, have revealed no only their team’s official name, but also its logo, the full list of players and the club’s founding philosophy.
The team was official named the Mumbai City Football Club yesterday at a launch even that featured the likes of Manuel Friedrich, Asif Kottayil, Ishan Debnath, Subrata Paul, Peter Costa, Sushil Kumar Singh, Abhishek Yadav, Rohit Mirza, Lalrin Fela, Nadong Bhutia and Syed Rahim Nabi.
Also present were COO Arunava Chaudhuri and technical director Nishant Mehra.
“As the Mumbai City Football Club comes to life on this day, I would like to share one thought you should always remember — the fact that this team belongs to not just me but 20 million Mumbaikars whose hearts beat here and who call the city home,” beamed Kapoor.
“This is our team Mumbai.”
He also revealed the official colors for the team, which will combine white, red and blue. Kapoor spoke of how the logo chose to represent Mumbai City Football Club came together.
“A resilient fortress stands proudly, surrounding the logo that signifies the unrelenting, determined spirit of the city,” he said.
“The seven stars, bold and regal, symbolise the islands that form Mumbai,”
“Trains that are the very lifeline of the city, pulsing, beating a staccato rhythm as they ply millions of Mumbaikars across its vast expanse, every single day tirelessly, connect these islands,”
“Our team will play a possession based free flowing brand of football while being technically sound, fast and tactically aware,”
Mumbai City FC is composed of an exciting line-up that boasts of varied international experience blended with rich domestic talent from across the country. We are looking forward to building a strong team by bringing together the best talent available.”
