31 Years and Counting – Heart Transplant Patient is World’s Longest LivingA man from the UK has entered the Guinness book of world records as the longest-surviving person in history following a heart transplant. The record previously stood at 30 years, 11 months and 10 days – John McCafferty however has now been living with a transplanted heart for a full 31 years.

The 71-year-old Brit told reporters from the BBC that he hopes his story will inspire others facing what appear to be dire odds. Even after the successful transplant of his new heart, Mr. McCafferty was told by his doctors that his life expectancy was no more than about five years.
