It’s not as if supposed leaks of the iPhone 6 in all its pre-launch glory are rare right now, but when a new image hits the web and carries the name of a tasty tipster, we’re more inclined to take note.
And that’s precisely what’s on the cards this morning – Australian rumor-monger Sonny Dickson has lavished his Twitter account with a pair of apparent iPhone 6 image leaks, which depict the 4.7-inch version right alongside the larger 5.5-inch iPhone Air. Speculation of two very different iPhone 6 variants dates back over a year now, though evidence that this is indeed Apple’s intent has only recently started to gather.
Along with clearly larger screens, both iPhones featured in the image have notably slimmer bezels than the existing iPhone 5S – a design trait that should facilitate the smallest possible overall device size. Hardware specifics remain a subject of pure speculation, though it’s become more than apparent that in order for either iPhone 6 to compete with Android market leaders, it will have to step up to a full 2K touchscreen or better.
As for when we’ll find out, the 4.7-inch version of the device is expected to launch in late Q3. Deutsche Telekom has apparently narrowed the all-important date down to September 19, which technically is more of a logical guess than inside information…given Apple’s prior iPhone release events.
The 5.5-inch iPhone Air on the other hand isn’t expected to land until a little later in the year – most likely mid-November and just in time to capitalize on holiday sales.
Apple may also choose to combine the unveiling of either iPhone with the equally unannounced iWatch – the Cupertino firm’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy Gear / Sony SmartWatch.
